The holiday concert was a success. The children did a great job! Only two weeks left until break. We are still working on double digit subtraction with regrouping. Santa’s Secret Shop is this Wednesday and Thursday for our class. If you would like your child to participate, please send money in an envelope with your child’s name and who they are to buy for. Thank you!
We have begun our unit on the solar system. The kids are really enjoying it. They also seem to be doing very well with double digit addition with and without regrouping. I can tell they are getting faster at their math facts! Thank you for practicing at home. November Book It has started. Please remember to read 20 minutes every day.
It was great meeting with everyone at Parent/Teacher conferences. It is hard to believe the first quarter is over. In math, we are continuing double digit addition with and without regrouping. We are starting the solar system this week in science. In social studies we are continuing map skills and discussing what a compass rose is. Thursday is our Halloween party. Students need to bring their costumes to school. Please no makeup as it takes too long to apply. There will be a short parade in the box gym beginning at 2:00. Thank you to all who sent in treats for the treat bags.
We are starting 2 digit addition with regrouping. Please practice basic math facts at home. The faster they are with basic math facts, the easier everything else will be in math. Book It for October is due on November 1st. They need to read for 20 minutes everyday. Thank you.
We have begun doing Social Studies. We will be concentrating on map skills, community helpers, and important people in history. Please remember to practice math facts with your child; both addition and subtraction. Thanks so much.
Just a reminder that my class will be going to the Book Fair on Wednesday, September 25th, and Thursday, September 26th. Our science test on the water cycle will be Friday, September 27th. Thank you!
We have been reviewing addition and will move onto subtraction in math. It is very important for the children to know their facts well. If a child knows his facts well, all of the other concepts will be much easier for him to grasp. Please practice facts at home. Thank you so much.
Hello everyone! Welcome to a new school year. We have already been very busy in 2nd grade. Please practice reading and math facts at home with your child. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Open House on Thursday, September 5th. Hope to see you then!
Make sure your child is keeping his/her skills sharp over the summer. Read to your child or have him read to you. Practice addition and subtraction facts. You could also start practicing multiplication facts. They will be hitting those hard in 3rd grade. Enjoy your summer. It is hard to believe the school year is over. Thanks for a great year.
We have finished our unit on sound. The students did a great job on their instruments and it was fun to hear them play! We are now beginning a unit on plants. In math, we are finishing up shapes and will begin fractions soon. We are also reviewing addition and subtraction with regrouping. No spelling this week or next week. We will resume spelling when we are finished with My Father’s Dragon.
