Make sure your child is keeping his/her skills sharp over the summer. Read to your child or have him read to you. Practice addition and subtraction facts. You could also start practicing multiplication facts. They will be hitting those hard in 3rd grade. Enjoy your summer. It is hard to believe the school year is over. Thanks for a great year.

We have finished our unit on sound. The students did a great job on their instruments and it was fun to hear them play! We are now beginning a unit on plants. In math, we are finishing up shapes and will begin fractions soon. We are also reviewing addition and subtraction with regrouping. No spelling this week or next week. We will resume spelling when we are finished with My Father’s Dragon.

Hello parents. Thank you for your help with the instrument projects. They did a nice job. Names were picked today for the field trip on the 23rd. Notes went home with everyone who volunteered to inform you if you were picked or not. Our science test on sound is next Tuesday, May 7th. Study guides will go home on Monday. Thank you.

We are still working on our sound unit in science and the instruments are due next Thursday, May 2nd. Also, make sure your child hands in the report that day as well. The report must be in complete sentences. We will be reading a chapter book for the next three weeks instead of doing stories out of our reading books. Please look for information to come home about that next week. Thanks.

We started counting money this week and have been discussing the values of a half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and penny. Please practice counting money at home. We are also doing 3 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. We will start a unit on sound in science next week. Thank you for all of your help at home.

We have finished our unit on telling time. We will continue to practice throughout the year. Counting money is next. Please review the values of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars with your child. Thank you.

We are telling time in math class now. They are doing pretty well with this concept. A dinosaur unit will be started in science next week and is usually a big hit with the children. There will be no Friday homework on March 15th or March 22nd. Enjoy!

We have finished our Animals unit in science. We will be moving on to dinosaurs which the students always enjoy. We are also starting a unit on telling time in math class. Some students have a difficult time with this. Please practice at home. Thank you so much.

We have been studying Alaska in second grade. The students seem very excited about it. Today, Mrs. Skimerhorn was kind enough to come to our room and talk about her trips to Alaska. She has family that lives there. She brought models of a kayak, an igloo, and a dog sled for the students to look at. She also brought a picture book with wonderful pictures of Alaska and the people who live there. We enjoyed her visit. Just a reminder to please have your child finish the homework that is sent home every Friday. It is always attached to the newsletter and is always due the following Friday. This is part of their reading grade. Thank you!

Thanks to all for a successful Valentine’s Day party. The kids had a really good time. Thanks, also, for your help with the science reports. I have been looking over them, and overall they have done a pretty good job. We will be reading them in class, so they might not get them back for a week. Remember there is no school on Monday in honor of President’s Day.
